Thoughts From JT's Mind

What is Race? And is "post-racial" even a legitimate term?

I’ve yet to figure out what race actually is in its essence. Black, Latino, White, Arab, Asian are all merely words that are attached to entire continents worth of ideas, histories, languages, ethnicities, jokes, mannerisms, beauty standards, ethical standards that are all different. I have no idea how such a plethora of people has been reduced to one word. I don’t have problem with the word itself, it is merely a tool of communication, and it’s simply impractical to know every single person’s family and genetic history. And it is even more impractical to develop categorizing words such as blative-americanese or Eurotino, or Indidadian (I like that one lol) which would be, although more descriptive in intention, undeniably more confusing.

I have a problem with the association with the names of these races. The human mind immediately pulls up images of the shooting in the projects, or the landscaping workers that work on your neighbors’ yard, or the business suit clad paper pusher. I intentionally left out the races associated with these stereotypes because I know you have filled them already, most likely.  Word association sucks because it causes the mind to blot out the race’s CEO’s, award winning scientists, poets and entrepreneurs and simultaneously the whores, thugs, criminals. This is largely due to the media, which is especially dangerous for my media-soaked generation. Currently I’m on 8 different websites, all of which have little or nothing to do with each other. Our generation is on a precipice, I fear that some do not realize this and will simply continue to follow the norm. The other half of the fear is that some may see our generation as the first generation without the problems of the past due to the mixing of cultures and ideas that has accompanied globalization and the internet. There is a complacency that comes out of this thought process, it is as if some simply think the problem can be “fixed.” As if changing society is that easy.

I believe a lot of people may have this “rebellious” feeling within them but have given up on “activism” because they are simply trying to keep their heads above water. Going to work does not stop you from standing up for what you think is right and maybe work wouldn’t be so hard if everyone were trying to work together rather than letting a previous history subconsciously pull them apart. I say subconsciously because there are a lot of things that occur that people ignore because there is no active attempt to stop them from occurring, e.g. a white man rubbing his hand on his pant leg after shaking that hand of a black man, a white woman crossing the street when she sees black people, an woman not entering a certain subway car because young black males are entering the same car.

We must fight and unite as a generation and actively pursue the utopia America was meant to be and that many more that Martin Luther King dreamt of. Race is a socio-political structure designed to justify the destroyed covenant our found fathers signed. It is a non-existent construction designed by the agents of capitalism to confuse you so they can use your perplexity to make money. I recommend you take the red pill, for there is Truth on the other side.
